OSWEGO, N.Y. – It ended up being a night filled with the number seven Saturday night for Doug Coby at Oswego Speedway. Coby wheeled the No. 7NY for Tommy Baldwin Racing to a seventh-place finish after 150 laps in the Toyota Budweiser Modified Classic. Racing as part of the historic Classic weekend at Oswego, it looked like Coby was in shape to score a fourth victory of the season in a part-time effort. However, a late caution on lap 121 shook the race up – as six-time Whelen Modified Tour champion Coby and a few others elected to pit. Coby restarted ninth and was able to charge his way back up to seventh before the checkered flag went in the air. Overall, it was another strong points effort for the Tommy Baldwin Racing team, as they lead the owners championship standings on the Tour with three races remaining. Doug Coby will return to the track in NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour competition at Riverhead Raceway on Saturday, September 17. The race will be in honor of Ed Partridge, longtime track owner who passed away last season, and is set for 256 laps, with infield pitting and a tire change for teams. MILFORD, Conn. – Fresh off his third NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour win of the season, all with Tommy Baldwin Racing, Doug Coby will look to carry momentum to Oswego Speedway this Saturday. Set to drive the No. 7NY again for Baldwin, Coby will look to help the team extend their owners championship points lead with just four races to go in the season. Coby is a former winner at Oswego while driving for Mike Smeriglio Racing, as the six-time series champion captured the checkered flag in 2016 in the inaugural stop at the New York oval. Racing as part of the Budweiser Classic weekend, the Whelen Modified Tour race will take place on Saturday night, September 3. Coby has all eyes towards Victory Lane. Even though he’s only raced part-time this year, with Baldwin and once with his own equipment, he sits inside the top-10 in the drivers championship standings and has the most wins on the circuit. “I’m confident,” Coby said. “I like Oswego. Having won there before and run up front, I feel like I have a good understanding of how to position myself to be near the front of the field when it counts. I’m excited with what Tommy Baldwin has going on right now. He’s had a ton of success this year, some of it at tracks he hadn’t won at before. I think we will have a strong car and I’d expect to be in contention to win.” Oswego’s race day schedule on Saturday includes one Whelen Modified Tour practice session from 2-3 p.m., followed by Mayhew Tools pole qualifying at 4:30 p.m. The green flag for the Toyota Budweiser Modified Classic 150 is scheduled for 7:30 p.m., live on FloRacing.TV for those who can’t make it to the track. LANGLEY, Va. – Doug Coby returned to the seat of the No. 7NY for Tommy Baldwin Racing on Saturday night at Langley Speedway, and rolled it right back into Victory Lane. Coby was fastest in practice, won the Mayhew Tools pole award, and led all 150 laps en route to a dominating victory in what was a dominating day for the entire team in Virginia. In the CheckeredFlag.com 150, Coby had the car to beat. “It means a lot to win here,” Coby said. “Anytime you come to a newer track for all the teams, it’s always nice to get a win. This is all about Tommy, his team and the effort they put in this past week to get the car here. What a rocket ship it has been all season. It’s been a long time since I’ve been the fastest in practice, won the pole and led all the laps.” The victory was the 34th in Coby’s Whelen Modified Tour career, giving him sole possession of fifth on the all-time wins list. Doug Coby will return to the track on Saturday, September 3, competing in the 150-lap NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour race as part of Classic weekend at Oswego Speedway in New York. MILFORD, Conn. – For the seventh time this season, six-time NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour champion Doug Coby will strap in behind the wheel for Tommy Baldwin Racing this weekend. Coby will compete in the Checkeredflag.com 150 at Langley Speedway on Saturday, August 27, as the Whelen Modified Tour hits the stretch run of the season with Baldwin’s team showing the way in the owner points with just five races to go in the season. In two previous starts at Langley Speedway, Coby has 134 laps led, all coming in his first stop at the track in 2018. In the second run, he DNF’d after an accident. The Milford, Connecticut, native feels confident heading south. “I’m confident it’s a track that Tommy will have a good setup for,” Coby said. “I ran good there the first time we went there and we almost won the race. Tommy’s never been there before, but he has something good going right now and that will keep us fast. It seems like a track position kind of place – if you can qualify good and be up front, you have a better shot at finishing there.” The race day schedule for the Checkeredflag.com 150 includes one practice session from 3-4 p.m., followed by Mayhew Tools qualifying at 5:30 p.m. The green flag for the race is scheduled for 8:30 p.m. and will air live on FloRacing.TV, for those who can’t make it to the track. THOMPSON, Conn. – Doug Coby returned to NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour racing for the first time this season with his own No. 10 Mayhew Tools team on Thursday night. Competing in the Phoenix Communications 150 at Thompson Speedway Motorsports Park, Coby qualified inside the top-five and had a race filled with ups and downs, moving throughout the field. After being involved in two separate wrecks, Coby charged through the pack late to get into the top-five, and eventually worked his way to the second spot for the final restart. While Craig Lutz drove to Victory Lane, Coby slid back to third, but completed the night with a solid top-five finish. The day included a top-five effort in practice, Mayhew Tools qualifying and the 150-lap main event. “This is a brand new car and our first Tour race of the season tonight,” Coby said. “Really proud of my guys – especially John, Josh and Alex for putting it together and Mayhew Tools for supporting us. It’s not easy to start Whelen Modified Tour racing in August. Our effort was great and I think we have a fast piece, so I’ll be looking forward to returning to Thompson for the World Series later this season.” For more information on Doug Coby Racing, visit DougCobyRacing.com and follow the team on Facebook for the latest updates. Coby will be competing in the Phoenix Communications 150 at Thompson Speedway Motorsports Park, as the NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour returns to the high-banks for the first time in just under two years on August 17. Coby’s Thompson record speaks for itself – as the six-time Whelen Modified Tour champion has sealed all six of his championships at the Connecticut oval. He’s familiar with the track, has confidence in the car, and is looking to rocket to Victory Lane as a part-time contender on the Tour once again. Coby has six Whelen Modified Tour starts this season, all for Tommy Baldwin Racing, with two wins to his credit. “It’s our first NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour race of the season with my own 10 team and we have a brand new car coming out with a fresh motor,” Coby said. “The guys have done a great job getting everything together. We’re excited to be back together on the 10 team and give it a run. The Whelen Modified Tour and Thompson Speedway are synonymous with each other – without a doubt, the Tour should be at Thompson multiple times during the year. The facility is like the home base for the Whelen Modified Tour.” The race day schedule for the Phoenix Communications 150 includes one practice session from 4-5 p.m., followed by Mayhew Tools qualifying at 6:20 p.m. The green flag for the 150-lap event will drop at 8 p.m., live on FloRacing.TV. CLAREMONT, N.H. – Following 150 laps at Claremont Motorsports Park, Doug Coby scored a ninth-place finish in the 10th NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour race of the season. Driving the famed No. 7NY for Tommy Baldwin Racing, Coby qualified 17th, but worked his way through the field during the Clash at Claremont to score a top-10 finish. The top-10 effort continued a streak of success for Tommy Baldwin Racing, who continues to lead the Whelen Modified Tour owners championship standings heading down the stretch run of the season. Coby, who had very limited laps at Claremont prior to Friday night, left with the best finish possible given the circumstances. “Track position is critical at tracks like Claremont and we didn’t have a good enough car in qualifying to start up front,” Coby said. “We came from 17th to the back half of the top-10 but couldn’t quite contend for a top-five tonight. I used up the tires pretty good coming through the field and we probably made a couple of final setup decisions for the race that we wish we hadn’t made. Thanks to everyone who had a hand in our effort.” Doug Coby will return to the track at Thompson Speedway Motorsports Park on Wednesday, August 17 for the NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour 150. MILFORD, Conn. – Doug Coby has winning the inaugural Whelen Granite State Short Track Cup in mind heading to Claremont Motorsports Park this Friday night. Coby will return to the seat of the No. 7NY for Tommy Baldwin Racing, as the Whelen Modified Tour competes in the Clash at Claremont 150. In his sixth start of the season for Tommy Baldwin Racing, Coby will look to break the tie with Matt Hirschman at the top of the Whelen Granite State Short Track Cup standings and earn Baldwin and his team a $5,000 championship prize. Coby is also in contention for the Consistency Bonus as part of the Cup, which awards the winning driver $800 for the best average finish over the three Cup events. Currently, Coby has an average finish of 3.0, trailing just Matt Hirschman, who has a 2.5. Baldwin’s team is also leading the Whelen Modified Tour owners championship standings with nine races complete in the 16-race schedule. “There is a lot at stake this weekend,” Coby said. “Claremont is a track I’ve only been to once in my life, so there are going to be some challenges, but I don’t know a lot of other drivers who have run there other than a few. Our plan is to go there and get a good feel for the car in the practice session and have a car that lasts longer than everyone else in the race. With only one set of tires, it’s something you have to manage to be there at the end.” Friday’s schedule includes a full night of racing at Claremont, headlined by the Clash at Claremont 150 for the NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour. The Six Shooters, Pure Stocks, Mini Stocks and Street Stocks of the NASCAR Advance Auto Parts Weekly Racing Series will also join the show. Whelen Modified Tour practice will roll from 3:30-4:30 p.m., followed by Mayhew Tools qualifying at 7 p.m. The green flag for the Clash at Claremont 150 is slated for 8:45 p.m., live on FloRacing.TV for those who can’t make it to the track. Tickets will be available at the gate for those in the area. For more information on Tommy Baldwin Racing, visit the team on Facebook. LOUDON, N.H. – Doug Coby wheeled the Tommy Baldwin Racing No. 7NY to a seventh-place finish at New Hampshire Motor Speedway on Saturday, July 16. Coby started from the second spot in the Whelen 100 and led laps early and was in the mix coming down to the final few laps of the 100-lap event.
However, some contact shuffled Coby back in the lead pack and the driver of the Mayhew Tools machine was able to settle for 7th place at the finish. The NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour 100 was part of a full weekend at New Hampshire Motor Speedway which also included the NASCAR Cup Series and NASCAR Xfinity Series. The run was Coby’s fifth top-10 finish in five races with Tommy Baldwin Racing this season – a stretch that also includes two victories. “We had a car that could have won the race,” Coby said. “I was in position towards the end running fourth but it just didn’t work out after the contact. I definitely have to thank all of the Tommy Baldwin Racing team, Mayhew Tools for jumping on board for New Hampshire and all of the other sponsors who made the race possible.” For more information on Tommy Baldwin Racing, follow the team on Facebook. MILFORD, Conn. – A late schedule adjustment for six-time NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour champion Doug Coby will see the veteran compete in the Tommy Baldwin Racing No. 7NY this weekend at New Hampshire Motor Speedway. Mayhew Tools, Coby’s primary sponsor with Doug Coby Racing, will be on the side of the famed Modified for the battle at the Magic Mile. Founded in 1856, Mayhew Tools is the oldest punch and chisel manufacturer in the United States, growing their extensive professional grade, American made product line to include pry bars, pneumatics, cable ties, and more. Coby has four starts with Baldwin’s race team so far in 2022 and has finished inside the top-five in all but one of them – winning twice. Baldwin himself, and his team, have been on fire since the start of the season. They are pulling away in the owners championship standings and have four victories with three different drivers – including Coby, Mike Christopher Jr. and the most recent winner at Wall Stadium last weekend, Jimmy Blewett. Coby knows how to get the job done at the 1.058-mile oval – known for drafting and tight racing – with lead changes often occurring multiple times per lap in the final stages. Coby has four victories at New Hampshire in 35 starts, and has been top-five over 35 percent of the time. “You have to be in the right position for a shot at the win inside the last 10 laps,” Coby said. “If you’re not in the top-four cars with 10 laps to go, you’re probably not going to be in position to make it happen. The game we all play for the first 90 laps is seeing where your car is working and how you can get yourself into position. Tommy and the team will have a great car prepared for us. There are a lot of guys that run well at Loudon, but I’m confident we will have a shot. In a sense, Tommy is now feeling what we felt with the No. 2 team and what Justin Bonsignore has felt with the No. 51 lately – having a chance to win every single race. The cars have been great. I can tell Tommy is satisfied with the work he has put in. He’s spent a lot of time chasing cars that won all the time, and now he’s there – seeing how much all of their hard work is paying off. He’s always had great cars – now he’s just winning at a consistent pace.” New Hampshire’s race day events will take place over two days, beginning on Friday, July 15 with practice from 3:15-4:30 p.m. and Mayhew Tools Qualifying at 6:45 p.m. The green flag for the Whelen Manufactured in America 100 is scheduled for 6 p.m., live on FloRacing.TV. The event will take place just after the NASCAR Xfinity Series Crayon 200. For more information on Tommy Baldwin Racing, visit the team on Facebook.
