MILFORD, Conn. -- Doug Coby is set to compete in the Tri Track Open Modified Series race at Seekonk Speedway on Wednesday, June 30, looking to capture a $10,000 check in Speed51 Modified Madness. Coby, who is coming off his impressive month of June, which included a victory in the inaugural SRX Series race at Stafford and a NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour win at Riverhead Raceway, will look to become the first four-time winner of the prestigious race. Coby’s previous victories were in 2011, 2013 and 2016 -- driving for two different car owners -- and in three different chassis -- but this time, he returns to Seekonk for the first time as owner/driver with Doug Coby Racing. Coby also has victories at Seekonk behind the wheel of a NEMA Midge and two wins in NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour action, with his most recent coming in 2019. He looks forward to racing with Matt Hirschman and the rest of the talented field of over 40 competitors, while chasing the check and trophy. Hirschman and Coby are the only multiple-time winners of Open Wheel Wednesday at Seekonk -- both with three. Coby wants to be the first one to get four. “Matt is just so good at these types of races and it’s always an extra bonus when I can race him and beat him in any open-modified race,” Coby said. “These races are tough. Matt always plays his cards the right way, and I think it’s cool that both of us have won it three times. We both want to be the first one to get four. Seekonk and I seem to get along well now -- my first few times racing there, we didn’t get along. But I learned how to drive the track and I think statistically, it’s probably my best track. I like grinding it out, lap-after-lap, side-by-side with other drivers, trying to outsmart them by a foot. It’s cool.” One of Coby’s major sponsors, Reynolds Auto Wrecking, will be in attendance for the race with a large number of supporters, as they are located close to the track. Doug Coby Racing wishes to thank all sponsors, supporters and team members to make this effort possible. Coby and the rest of the Tri Track Open Modified Series teams will practice from 3:45-4:45 p.m., with qualifying heat races set to go green at 6:30 p.m. Following qualifying heats, Tri Track will run consi races and the 100-lap, $10,000 to win feature event. The race will also be joined by a 50-lap special for the NEMA Lites and a 40-lap race from the 350 SMAC Supermodified Series. For more information on Doug Coby Racing, visit the team on Facebook. RIVERHEAD, N.Y. -- Six-time NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour champion Doug Coby rocketed to his second straight victory at Riverhead Raceway on Sunday, June 20, to cap what was a remarkable week for the Connecticut native. Coby won the inaugural Superstar Racing Experience (SRX) event at Stafford Motor Speedway on June 12, then announced his NASCAR Camping World Truck Series debut will take place for GMS Racing at Bristol Motor Speedway in September. On Sunday, in the Buzz Chew Chevrolet Cadillac 200 at Riverhead -- a race postponed one day due to weather -- Coby dominated -- leading 149 laps en route to his 31st career Whelen Modified Tour win. The victory tied Coby with Jeff Fuller for fifth on the all-time wins list and started a streak at the one track where victory eluded him for so many years. “We hit on something here,” Coby said. “It’s an awesome deal for our Mayhew Tools team to come here to Riverhead and keep grinding. In Victory Lane for round two at Riverhead. Who would’ve thought that Doug Coby would be in contention to sweep Riverhead three times in a year when we come back in September? It’s so hard here, and we’ve hit on something.” The victory was Coby’s second of the Whelen Modified Tour season, and helped him climb a little bit closer in the championship standings with six races complete. Coby missed the event at Oswego Speedway on June 12 to compete with SRX -- therefore, he was nearly 50 points out of the lead entering the race, in eighth place. With the win, Coby jumped to fourth, and sits 41 points back heading for the next event. Doug Coby will return to the track on Wednesday, June 30, at Seekonk Speedway with the Tri Track Open Modified Series. The next event on the NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour schedule is Saturday, July 17, at New Hampshire Motor Speedway. For more information on Doug Coby Racing, follow the team on Facebook. STORY BY GMS RACING STATESVILLE, N.C. (June 18, 2021) – Six-time NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour Champion Doug Coby will pilot the No. 24 Chevrolet Silverado for GMS Racing in the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series race at Bristol Motor Speedway in September. “I’m really thankful to have the opportunity to drive for a winning team like GMS Racing at Bristol,” said Coby. “My racing career has been filled with chance meetings where I come across someone who ends up opening another door for me, and last weekend’s SRX event at Stafford with Mike (Beam) was another one of those cases. For Mike to leave the event and speak with Maury Gallagher about putting me in one of their trucks at Bristol is phenomenal and I’m grateful for the opportunity to prove myself in the Camping World Truck Series. I’m really looking forward to working with all the guys on the 24 team at one of my favorite tracks. It doesn’t get any better than Bristol!” Coby won the inaugural SRX Racing event last weekend at Stafford Motor Speedway where he was paired with team president Mike Beam as celebrity crew chief. Coby has 30 Whelen Modified wins to his credit and has made more than 200 starts in the series. “One of the main goals Ray (Evernham) and his group had with the SRX series was to give these local short track guys like Coby a shot,” said Beam. “We’re blessed to have Maury’s (Gallagher) support to put these local guys in a truck and give them a chance to compete at the national level in NASCAR.” Sponsorship and paint scheme for Coby’s No. 24 Silverado will be revealed at a later date. MILFORD, Conn. -- Doug Coby returns to Riverhead Raceway this Saturday, June 19, carrying plenty of momentum off a victory in the debut race of the Superstar Racing Experience (SRX) at Stafford Motor Speedway. Coby bested former NASCAR Cup Series champions and winners -- and top drivers from a variety of racing disciplines -- to score the biggest win of his career at his home track. Now, his attention turns towards competing with the NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour at Riverhead -- fresh off his first win of his career at the New York oval on May 15. After 19 previous starts, Coby finally parked the No. 10 Mayhew Tools entry in Victory Lane last month -- but a second straight win at the track would mean even more. “Just because we won there the last time I don’t think we can plan on it happening again,” Coby said. “We will have a good car and I’m confident in the car -- but we just have to stay out of trouble and make sure you are there at lap 200. Everyone is going to do their homework from the last time.” After missing the tour race at Oswego Speedway to compete with SRX, Coby sits eighth, 47 points out of the title lead, with nine races remaining in the season in chase of a seventh championship. “I have to think about it as I’m making moves out there,” Coby said of the points battle. “My mission right now is going to be similar to what it was when we were in a hole a few years ago. I’m looking at who is the next realistic chunk of points in front of us that I can make up. Everyone from third to seventh is fair game -- I’m going to try and catch them, pass them, and have good finishes to distance myself from them. We will see how the summer unfolds. Just going to try and get max points and put pressure on those guys in front of us to run well.” One more victory would tie Coby with Jeff Fuller for 31 career all-time wins. Coby has qualified inside the top-10 in his last 12 Riverhead starts, resulting in 10 finishes inside the top-10 in the span. Whelen Modified Tour teams will have one practice on Saturday, lasting 60 minutes, from 3-4 p.m. The green flag will drop in Mayhew Tools pole qualifying at 6 p.m., with the Buzz Chew Chevrolet Cadillac 200 set to start at 8 p.m. Tickets will be available at the track. For those who can’t make it to Long Island, the race will air via a live stream through NBC Sports Gold and TrackPass. For more information on Doug Coby Racing, visit the team on Facebook. Story By Souza Media/Kyle Souza OSWEGO, N.Y. -- Making his debut for Doug Coby Racing, Chase Dowling piloted the No. 10 Mayhew Tools NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour entry to an eighth-place finish at Oswego Speedway on Saturday, June 12. Dowling qualified the car on the outside of the front row and ran inside the top-10 for the first half of the race. However, during the only caution flag period of the race, Dowling was forced to the tail end of the longest line for the restart after receiving a penalty to the end of the line from NASCAR for what officials said was a pit road infraction. Dowling charged from the back of the line and only could salvage eighth, but was happy with the speed under the hood of the car at the end. “We were pretty good, qualified well and just missed it a little bit on the setup at the beginning,” Dowling said. “At the end of the race, I thought we were really fast. We had to drive from the end of the line there and we never got a caution. Kind of a bummer end to the day for us.” Doug Coby Racing will return to competition on Saturday, June 19, with the NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour at Riverhead Raceway. Team pilot and six-time series champion Doug Coby will return to the seat looking for his second straight win at the New York bullring after taking the Oswego race off and winning the inaugural SRX event at Stafford Motor Speedway. Story By Souza Media/Kyle Souza STAFFORD, Conn. -- Representing the entire short-track community, Doug Coby dominated the inaugural Superstar Racing Experience (SRX) event at his home track, Stafford Motor Speedway, on Saturday night, June 12. Driving the No. 10, Coby held off former NASCAR champions Greg Biffle and Tony Stewart to score one of the biggest wins of his career in front of a packed Stafford grandstand. “What a special night for short track racing in America and a special night for Stafford,” Coby said, moments after climbing from the car. “This is for everyone who is a short-track racer around the country. To have SRX here, with this amazing crowd.. I have to thank Ray Evernham and everyone at SRX. This means a lot to short-track racing.” Coby was fastest in practice on Saturday, won his heat race, and also was at the front for most of the race. A late caution flag gave Biffle and Stewart one more shot to find their way around the Milford, Connecticut, native, but neither had enough. It was Coby’s 31st career win at Stafford’s half-mile -- with victories coming in the NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour, Pro Stocks, SK Modifieds and Late Models. The six-time Whelen Modified Tour champion skipped the tour race at Oswego Speedway to compete with SRX. Coby honored his former Modified car owner, Don King, who passed away this week, with a special sticker on his helmet. “I lost a very good friend of mine this week,” Coby said. “Don was one of my best friends. He gave me my first tour ride. That’s what short-track racers do. We pour our heart and soul into this.” Doug Coby will return to racing action at Riverhead Raceway on Saturday, June 19, with the NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour. Story By Souza Media/Kyle Souza MILFORD, Conn. -- Six-time NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour champion Doug Coby will make one of the biggest starts of his racing career this Saturday, June 12, and it won’t be behind the wheel of a Modified. Coby will compete in the inaugural event for the Superstar Racing Experience (SRX) Series at Stafford Motor Speedway, his home track. Coby will compete against former NASCAR champions and veterans, the most recent Indy 500 winner, and more of racing’s top challengers in front of a sold out crowd. Operated by NASCAR Hall of Fame members Tony Stewart and Ray Evernham, SRX will run a six-event schedule in 2021 at some of the top short-tracks in the United States. The series includes drivers from multiple different racing disciplines -- from NASCAR, to IndyCar, and everything in between. The cars -- identical for each driver -- were designed by Evernham. Coby will be competing against 2021 Indy 500 winner Helio Castroneves, Bill Elliott, Tony Stewart, Michael Waltrip, Greg Biffle, Bobby Labonte, Tony Kanaan, Marco Andretti, and more. Coby was invited to the event to represent Stafford, and the region where he’s put together a successful resume of winning races and championships. The Milford, Connecticut, native, as a six-time tour champion, has 30 career wins in NASCAR's touring series. Twelve of those have come at Stafford -- where Coby has 30 wins overall -- including victories in the SK Modifieds, Late Models and Pro Stocks. He also has two titles at the half-mile -- one in the Late Models -- and the other in the Pro Stocks. He’s excited to represent his home track in front of a packed house. “The excitement has been building, from the snippets on social media, to the cars, to the video game and everything else,” Coby said. “I’m in a video game.. And I think that’s pretty cool. This is a big deal for the short-track industry, for the tracks and drivers to be featured… that’s why I wanted to be part of this. It will be a fun, but challenging experience. Growing up at Stafford, and being able to represent Stafford, the short-track community and especially the modified community, it’s important. The fact that SRX could have gone in any direction and they chose to stick to short-tracks and getting millions of eyes on these facilities.. It’s cool. Hopefully this produces more attendance and social media following for other events. It’s good for the business. We have to find a good balance to keep the short-tracks alive and this is injecting a lot of life into Stafford and other tracks.” General admission tickets for the event are sold out and no pit passes will be available at the track. The race will air live on CBS TV on Saturday from 8-10 p.m., where fans can watch Coby compete. While Coby races at Stafford, Chase Dowling will wheel the No. 10 Mayhew Tools entry for Doug Coby Racing in NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour action at Oswego Speedway. For more information on Doug Coby Racing, visit the team on Facebook. STORY BY SOUZA MEDIA/KYLE SOUZA MILFORD, Conn. -- While Doug Coby Racing owner Doug Coby competes at Stafford Motor Speedway in the SRX Series on Saturday, June 12, the rest of the team will head to round five of the NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour season at Oswego Speedway for the Steel Palace 150. With rising star Chase Dowling behind the wheel, the No. 10 Mayhew Tools machine will roll around the .625-mile Oswego oval in search of victory. Dowling and the team will be looking to maintain DCR’s spot in the owners championship standings -- as Coby will not receive driver points for the race. A strong run will keep the team near the top of the owners championship, which is separate from the drivers title during the season. Doug Coby Racing crew chief Phil Moran is excited to work with Dowling at the New York oval. In the last four appearances at Oswego, the team has finished sixth or better in all events. “I’m really looking forward to it,” Moran said. “I’ve known Chase for five or six years -- he works on his own car just two miles away from my shop. I think we have a good relationship, I know he can drive. He was on the top of the list when we were talking about who was going to drive for us.” Moran also knows the challenges that Oswego presents for a race team. As one of the fastest tracks the Whelen Modified Tour visits, Oswego also has a boiler plate on the inside wall that makes the corners tight on the bottom. “It’s a fast race track, and the boiler plate on the inside wall definitely makes it challenging,” Moran said. “We have run well there before with Doug, winning in 2016… we feel confident going into it.” The schedule for race day includes one practice session, from 3-4 p.m., with Mayhew Tools pole qualifying set to go green at 6 p.m. The green flag for the Steel Palace 150 is set for 7:30 p.m., and the race will also air live on NBC Sports Gold and their TrackPass platform.
