MILFORD, Conn. -- Doug Coby Racing announced on Monday that Chase Dowling will drive the No. 10 Mayhew Tools entry in the NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour event at Oswego Speedway on Saturday, June 12. Team owner and driver Doug Coby is set to compete with the Superstar Racing Experience (SRX) Series at his home track -- Stafford Motor Speedway -- and will be unable to compete at Oswego. Dowling, a former Whelen Modified Tour winner, also grew up racing at Stafford -- where he has 15 career wins between the premier SK Modifieds and SK Light Modifieds. As a current regular at Stafford, dirt driver, and driver for his own Open Modified team, Dowling will be competing in the Steel Palace 150 for Coby. In three previous Oswego starts, Dowling has a best finish of eighth. “Obviously it’s a great opportunity when a six-time champion calls you to ask him to replace him for a race,” the 23-year-old Dowling said. “I’ve known the whole group for a while, they have a great team, with good equipment, resources and crew members. It’s a good fit. I’m really excited to work with all of Doug’s guys and go out there and do what is best for his race team and hopefully win.” Team owner Doug Coby, who is excited to compete with SRX in their debut, is looking forward to seeing what Dowling can do behind the wheel of his ride. “I wanted to pick someone to put in the car that could go out there and win the race,” Coby said. “Chase was at the top of my list. He fits right in the seat, and he’s local to Connecticut, he knows my (crew chief) Phil Moran well. He’s going to go out there and take care of the car and get the most out of it for us. I’m confident he will do his best behind the wheel and perform well for Mayhew Tools, our crew and our sponsors at Doug Coby Racing.” The Steel Palace 150 at Oswego Speedway is set for Saturday, June 12 at 7:30 p.m. Advanced tickets are available at JDVProductions.com and will also be available on the day of the race. Fans who can’t make it to the track can watch a live stream of the race through NBC Sports Gold and their TrackPass platform. For more information on Doug Coby Racing, visit the team on Facebook.

STORY BY SOUZA MEDIA/KYLE SOUZA JENNERSTOWN, Pa. -- Doug Coby nearly made it two consecutive NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour victories on Saturday evening at Jennerstown Speedway, but came up just short in the Jennerstown Salutes 150 presented by DGV, finishing second. Coby crossed the line a mere .112 seconds behind race winner Justin Bonsignore after giving him a run for the money on the final lap. Driving the Mayhew Tools No. 10, Coby qualified second in Mayhew Tools qualifying, ran inside the top-five for the duration of the race, and was on the bumper of Bonsignore for the entire final lap, before taking a look to the outside in turn three and drag-racing him to the line. Off a victory at Riverhead Raceway on May 15, a second-place effort at Jennerstown kept the momentum rolling for the entire Mayhew Tools team. During the race, Coby carried the name of Air Force Master Sergeant John Chapman, who was killed in 2002 in Afghanistan, on his roof. It was a special finish to a Memorial Day weekend of racing that was filled with honoring those who were lost in war defending their country. Honoring countless fallen heroes came as part of a partnership between NASCAR, JDV Productions and Operation Vet NOW Inc. (OVN), at Jennerstown. “If Justin would have wiggled up the track on the last lap I think I would have probably gotten by him pretty easily. I tried the outside, but he recovered enough,” Coby said. “I wasn’t expecting to catch him that quickly at the end. We could have won tonight, and I feel like three out of the first four we could have won. We left Martinsville and going to these last three races, we feel like we are back where we need to be, qualifying and racing up front at every different track.” Next up for Doug Coby will be competition in the inaugural SRX Series event at Stafford Motor Speedway on Saturday, June 12. Coby will be competing with the likes of Tony Stewart, Tony Kanaan, Helio Castroneves, Marco Andretti and more at his home track in the debut of the series that will air on CBS. Story by Souza Media/Kyle Souza MILFORD, Conn. -- Celebrating Memorial Day weekend with a special event at Jennerstown Speedway, Doug Coby will look to make it two straight wins in NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour competition this Saturday, May 29. As part of a partnership between NASCAR, JDV Productions and Operation Vet NOW Inc. (OVN), all cars in the field will carry the name of a fallen hero on their roof decals for the Jennerstown Salutes 150 presented by DGV. Coby will carry the name of Air Force Master Sergeant John Chapman, who was killed in 2002, in Afghanistan. Chapman is credited with saving the lives of his entire rescue team during a mission, however, he lost his own life in the process. Coby is excited to carry Chapman’s name and hopefully wheel the No. 10 Mayhew Tools entry back into Victory Lane in his honor. “On Memorial Day, we should be realizing that we are doing what we enjoy in life because there are people around the world that are protecting our freedoms,” Coby said. “To honor the people we have lost, especially Air Force Master Sergeant John Chapman… when NASCAR sent out the list of service members… he jumped out at me because he was originally from Connecticut. What he sacrificed that day for his entire team, I knew it was a remarkable story that I wanted to get out there.” Last year at Jennerstown, Coby finished seventh and fourth in the two stops at the Pennsylvania oval, and is hoping to improve on those runs. “We can go hard during the race pretty much the whole time and then try to fine-tune the car at the pit stop,” Coby said. “When we were up front in the first race there last year, we pitted and over-adjusted on the car -- trying to get better. We are all building notebooks -- the track puts on a good race and it gives us a lot of options. It’s important that we put on a show in front of those fans -- most of them are new to us and what we offer.” Coby is coming off a victory at Riverhead Raceway on May 15, and also finished sixth in the season-opener at Martinsville Speedway and 12th at Stafford Motor Speedway. The six-time Whelen Modified Tour champion enters the race third in the championship standings. Practice begins at 3:30 p.m. and will be one, 60-minute session, for the day. Mayhew Tools qualifying will take the green flag at 5:45 p.m., followed by the drop of the green flag in the Jennerstown Salutes 150 presented by DGV at 7:30 p.m. For those who can’t make it to the track, the race will also air live via TrackPass on NBC Sports Gold. Story by Souza Media/Kyle Souza RIVERHEAD, N.Y. -- It took 20 starts, and close to two decades, but Doug Coby finally parked his car in Victory Lane at Riverhead Raceway on Saturday night, May 15. The six-time NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour champion took the lead from Justin Bonsignore with 25 laps to go in the Miller Lite 200 and drove away from the field to win by over three seconds. After years of frustration, near victory, and pure determination to succeed, Coby took the entire Mayhew Tools team to the front of the field. The victory was his 30th career in Whelen Modified Tour action -- breaking a tie with Bonsignore to give Coby sole possession of sixth place all-time. He is just one victory away from Jeff Fuller. “Easily the sweetest win of my career,” Coby said. “This is a tough place -- especially for outsiders. To put the Mayhew Tools car out front… I know we have to be perfect when we come here to beat these guys. I didn’t want to say it, but I knew this thing was perfect from the beginning. We’re so happy to go back to Connecticut with a win at Riverhead. Finally.” Coby scored a third-place effort in Mayhew Tools qualifying earlier in the day, ran inside the top-five for the duration of the race, and pounced when it was time to win. The victory jumped Coby to third, just seven points out of the championship lead in the point standings. Next up for Coby and the Mayhew Tools team will be a trip to Jennerstown Speedway for the Jennerstown Salutes 150, presented by DGV on Saturday, May 29. Story by Souza Media/Kyle Souza MILFORD, Conn. -- Doug Coby looks to break into Victory Lane for the first time at Riverhead Raceway in NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour competition on Saturday, May 15. In race three of the tour season -- the Miller Lite 200 -- Coby looks to erase a 19-race winless streak on Long Island. The six-time Whelen Modified Tour champion does have two finishes of second and has led 332 laps at the bullring, but is yet to hoist the checkered flag. Coby enters the race eighth in the point standings after finishes of sixth at Martinsville Speedway and 12th at Stafford Motor Speedway . He will drive the No. 10 Mayhew Tools entry in the 200-lap event. “I’ve been close there, and a lot closer recently compared to the first few of the 19 starts, but I feel confident that we will be strong enough to run as a top-five car. If you can do that, you might put yourself in a position to win,” Coby said. “I think I’ve had cars there that were good enough to win -- and circumstances have played out that only a track like Riverhead can present for us. It’s amazing to me that guys like Justin (Bonsignore), Timmy (Solomito) and Ryan (Preece) have won there so many times. It takes everything to go right to have a shot.” The schedule for the Miller Lite 200 includes a final practice round from 3-4 p.m., with Mayhew Tools Dominator pole qualifying set to begin at 6 p.m. The Miller Lite 200 green flag is expected at 8 p.m., live on TrackPass via NBC Sports Gold, for those who can’t make it to the track. Fan capacity is allowed and tickets will be available at the gate. For more information on Doug Coby Racing, visit the team on Facebook.
