MILFORD, Conn. – Doug Coby and Tommy Baldwin Racing (TBR) will continue their partnership this weekend at Monadnock Speedway, when Coby wheels the No. 7NY in the Duel at the Dog 200. Coby was tabbed to drive the car at Riverhead Raceway and Lee USA Speedway last month, and in the first two starts together as a combination, the team went to Victory Lane. Since then, Mike Christopher Jr. has also driven the car to the victory at Jennerstown Speedway, meaning Tommy Baldwin Racing has won the last three Whelen Modified Tour events.

On top of winning, TBR also leads the championship owner point standings after five events. Coby, a six-time Whelen Modified Tour champion, was only planning on running select events with his personal race team this year, but is excited to return to the seat for Baldwin this weekend. The 200-lap event at Monadnock will come with no pit stops, meaning tire conservation and patience will be crucial to success. At Riverhead, Coby was the dominant force in that 200-lap event. At Lee, he rocketed to the lead in dominating fashion again to take a second straight win.

In his career at Monadnock, the Milford, Connecticut, native has one victory in seven previous starts and has been top-five in all but two efforts at the Winchester, New Hampshire oval.

“I’m certainly happy to be back in the car,” Coby said. “Tommy Baldwin has two opportunities to win Saturday, with my car and Jimmy Blewett driving the No. 1 for him. It’s a chance to extend the streak. Monadnock is an awesome little technical track, where you have to be smart, smooth and consistent and repeat that and do it over and over again for the whole race. It seems like as the race goes on, you can move around and use different parts of the track to get the car to turn. It’s a fun place.”

Saturday’s race day schedule at Monadnock includes one practice session from 2-3 p.m., followed by Mayhew Tools Dominator pole qualifying at 5 p.m. The estimated drop of the green flag for the Duel at the Dog 200 is scheduled for 8:30 p.m., live on FloRacing.TV.

Doug Coby Heads To Claremont Looking For $15,000 Winning Prize

MILFORD, Conn. – Fresh off two straight NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour wins with Tommy Baldwin Racing, Doug Coby will strap back in behind the wheel of his own No. 10 Mayhew Tools Modified this Friday night. Set to compete in the $15,000 to win Racing Guys 100 at Claremont Motorsports Park, Coby heads to New Hampshire looking to collect the big check in the second race of the season for Doug Coby Racing.

Although the Milford, Connecticut, native has only raced at Claremont once – over 12 years ago – he is prepared to battle for the prize in a competitive field of talent. Names like Matt Hirschman, Woody Pitkat, and some of New Hampshire’s top local Modified stars will be competing in the 100-lap race.

“Like a lot of the other New Hampshire short tracks, Claremont is a technical place,” Coby said. “It’s a place where you can be easily baited into overdriving and charging the corners and killing the speed in the car. You have to make sure you get your angles right for the corners and don’t abuse the tires. Just like in any open modified race, you have to be aware of how the race is unfolding with strategy. We’re going to have to decide if we can go the whole race on the same set of tires, or if we need to come in and get the tire. I’ve seen races where people stay out and win without pitting, and others where people pit and charge through the field.”

Coby is excited to get back with his Doug Coby Racing team for open modified competition after competing on the Whelen Modified Tour and is hoping to carry some momentum from his victories into Claremont.

“It’s been an interesting start to the season, being two more races in than I had originally planned,” Coby said. “I think as a team we were disappointed with how the Spring Sizzler at Stafford unfolded in April, and then I went and won two races with Tommy Baldwin and his team. Excited to get back to work with the Mayhew Tools guys this Friday night.”

Friday’s race day schedule at Claremont includes practice beginning at 4 p.m., followed by the green flag for qualifying heats at 7 p.m. On top of the Modifieds, Claremont’s Late Model Sportsman, Mini Stocks, Six Shooters and Pure Stocks will also be in action. All tickets will be available at the track, and the race will also air live on RacingAmerica.TV for fans who can’t make it to the track.

LEE, N.H. – Two races with Tommy Baldwin Racing, two victories for Doug Coby.

The Milford, Connecticut, native rocketed to Victory Lane at Lee USA Speedway on Saturday, May 21, winning the inaugural Granite State Derby presented by USA Insulation. Coby wasn’t planning on competing in Whelen Modified Tour races at Riverhead Raceway or Lee – but Tommy Baldwin called when Jimmy Blewett couldn’t drive the car – and as they say, the rest is history.

Coby’s victory was the 33rd in his Whelen Modified Tour career and first at Lee. The six-time series champion found his way to the front from his third-place starting spot and held off two of the best in the game to do it – Jon McKennedy and Matt Hirschman.

“Tommy Baldwin gave me a good car for two races in a row,” Coby said. “This is a tough track, you can spin your tires real easily. Jon (McKennedy) is a clean driver, Matt (Hirschman) is a clean driver, but I didn’t want to worry too much about Jon and open the door for Matt to be the hero. They’re both so good. To be able to race with those guys is a great feat for this 7NY team and the Baldwin family.”

Doug Coby will return to the track in the No. 10 for his own team at Claremont Motorsports Park on Friday, May 27, to compete in the 100-lap, $15,000 to win Racing Guys 100.

Six-Time Champion To Compete in Granite State Derby Presented by USA Insulation at Lee USA Speedway

By Souza Media

MILFORD, Conn. – Fresh off a victory at Riverhead Raceway last Saturday, Doug Coby and Tommy Baldwin Racing will team together again this weekend at Lee USA Speedway for the NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour Granite State Derby 175.

Coby will drive the No. 7NY for Baldwin’s team in the first Whelen Modified Tour race at the New Hampshire oval in over two decades. Lee, known for its abrasive surface and tire conservation, will be difficult for Coby and Baldwin to tackle – but with momentum on their side coming off a victory in New York – the team is excited to hit the track together again.

Coby does have experience winning at tracks that require excessive amounts of tire conservation. The six-time Whelen Modified Tour champion won the last Whelen Modified Tour race at Myrtle Beach Speedway in 2019 – a track that is similar to Lee, when it comes to strategy. With Baldwin calling the shots on the pit strategy and Coby behind the wheel, the combination feels like they will be in the running to make it two straight wins.

Coby will step back into the 7NY seat to allow Jimmy Blewett additional time at home and keep the Baldwin Racing entry in contention for the Whelen Modified Tour owners championship. Through three races, the team leads the owners points by 12.

“At Myrtle Beach you couldn’t even go 100%,” Coby said. “In these races, it’s definitely timing of when you take tires, v.s. when the cautions fall. In the last race I won at Myrtle Beach, we timed our pit stop well, when some others stayed out and were hoping for a caution later in the race, but it never came out. Being a six-tire race at Lee, it’s a big difference to be able to come into the pits twice. Someone may even try to time it right and only pit once and not need the second stop. The race is going to be about pacing yourself and not abusing the car. At Riverhead, I was able to pace myself the whole race, and knowing how the car responded to it, it gives me a lot more confidence. At Lee, we will be in a tire saving mindset from the drop of the green. Lee is a great facility and the track is a ton of fun.”

The event schedule for the Granite State Derby presented by USA Insulation will include one Whelen Modified Tour practice session from 1:40-2:40 p.m., followed by Mayhew Tools pole qualifying at 5:30 p.m. The drop of the green flag for the 175-lap race is scheduled for 7 p.m. All tickets will be available at the track and are also available in advance at JDVProductions.com. The race will air live on FloRacing.TV for those who can’t make it to the track.

Coby Rockets To Victory Lane With Tommy Baldwin Racing at Riverhead

RIVERHEAD, N.Y. – Driving for Tommy Baldwin Racing, Doug Coby was the dominant force on Saturday night, May 14, at Riverhead Raceway. Coby rocketed to his third NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour win in the last four races at the New York bullring, this time, driving the No. 7NY for the Baldwin family. It was a special win for the six-time series champion, who got the call to drive the car just five days prior to race day.

Jimmy Blewett was originally scheduled to drive the car for Baldwin – but a family emergency kept him from competing in the Miller Lite 200. Baldwin called Coby on Tuesday and asked him to drive the car, with Blewett’s blessing, and the deal was done.

Coby was third in practice and Mayhew Tools qualifying was canceled due to weather, lining him up third for the green flag. The Milford, Connecticut native took the lead early and held off Patrick Emerling on a green-white-checkered restart to pick up the win. The victory was the 32nd career for Coby, pulling him back into a tie with three-time champion Justin Bonsignore for fifth on the all-time list.

“It feels awesome,” Coby said. “More important than winning, Kayla Blewett is home with her family, and that is what is most important. These guys just gave me a great car. I’m really happy to be here and really happy we got the race in. This place is so tough. It’s just surreal to get a call on Tuesday with a team I haven’t really even talked to that much and I’m happy to be able to showcase their equipment and their cars in victory lane for their team.”

The win came in Coby’s first NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour start of the season. Coby has plans to compete in multiple events during the second half of the year as part of a part-time schedule.

Doug Coby will return to the track on Friday, May 27 at Claremont Motorsports Park in New Hampshire, driving the Mayhew Tools No. 10 for Doug Coby Racing. For more information on Doug Coby Racing, visit DougCobyRacing.com and follow on Facebook for the latest news.

doug coby looks to continue string of success at riverhead raceway

RIVERHEAD, N.Y. – Six-time NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour champion Doug Coby will drive for Tommy Baldwin Racing in the famed No. 7NY this Saturday at Riverhead Raceway. Set to compete for 200 laps in the Miller Lite 200 – the third Whelen Modified Tour race of the season – Coby and Baldwin will team together to chase the trophy in New York.

Jimmy Blewett was originally scheduled to drive the car, however, a family emergency sidelined him from competition. Baldwin called Coby to fill the seat for the race and Coby is excited for the opportunity.

In 22 starts at Riverhead, Coby has two wins – both of them coming within the last year. Coby went to Victory Lane in the first two races at Riverhead last year, driving for his own team, Doug Coby Racing. In September, he was involved in a crash early running at the front of the pack.

“It was just the right car, the right track and the right weekend,” Coby said. “To be able to drive Tommy’s car, and get a sense for how he sets a car up compared to (past crew chief) Phil Moran, and (current crew chief) John McKenna, with what we are doing here now, it’s a good learning experience. I wouldn’t do it if I didn’t think we could go out there and win. There are a lot of reasons to want to drive the 7NY at Riverhead – from Tommy’s dad and the impact he had on the Whelen Modified Tour to everyone who goes to Riverhead knowing the number, the car and the family. It’s cool to be the driver they thought to call to drive it.”

Coby is also thinking about the Blewett family during their difficult time.

“Jimmy and I have been close ever since his brother passed away,” Coby said. “I always try to have one of John’s stickers on my car. We’ve hung out and both of us know how the other one races on the track. Jimmy had this deal put together with Tommy and I was happy to see him get back on the Tour with the Modifieds… even on a part-time basis, Jimmy is a good guy for our series to have out there and I think we missed having a guy like him in the series. Their family situation is unfortunate and our number one hope is they figure everything out it gets better as soon as possible. Tommy and Jimmy could have decided to leave the car home but they thought of calling me and I appreciate it.”

Saturday’s race day schedule for the Miller Lite 200 includes one practice session from 3-4 p.m. for the team to dial the car in. Mayhew Tools pole qualifying will take place at 6 p.m., followed by the drop of the green flag in the Miller Lite 200 at 8 p.m. Tickets will be available at the track - but for those who can’t make it - the race will also air live on FloRacing.TV.

DOUG COBY FINISHES 17th AT STAFFORD SPRING SIZZLER

STAFFORD, Conn. – For the first time in 2022, the Doug Coby Racing team unloaded at the track race on April 23-24, competing in the 50th running of the NAPA Spring Sizzler at Stafford Motor Speedway. When the 100-lap Sizzler feature took the checkered flag, Coby wheeled the No. 10 Mayhew Tools entry to a 17th place finish. The team elected to try a tire strategy that kept fresh Hoosier rubber in the pit area until late in the race, with the plan to put them on and make a dash through the field.

However, the caution flags didn’t fall where they were needed for Coby to have a shot at chasing the big $15,000 prize. In the end, Coby kept the Mayhew Tools entry in one piece and produced the best finish possible on older tires compared to those around him. The race was the first of seven events on the tentative 2022 schedule for the Milford, Connecticut veteran.

“It just didn't work out our way, it happens sometimes with strategy,” Coby said. “All of the Mayhew Tools crew worked really hard to get us here and at the track during the weekend. We will go home and get ready for the next one in just over a month.”

The next event on the 2022 schedule for Doug Coby Racing is scheduled to take place at Claremont Motorsports Park on Friday, May 27. The scheduled 100-lap race around the tricky New Hampshire oval will pay $15,000 to the winner.

MILFORD, Conn. – With $15,000 on the line in the 50th NAPA Spring Sizzler this weekend at Stafford Motor Speedway, Doug Coby would love to add another trophy in the prestigious event to his resume. Coby, a former track champion at the Connecticut half-mile early in his career – over 20 years ago – has four previous wins in the Spring Sizzler in 2006, 2012, 2016 and 2019. As the track gets ready to celebrate this special anniversary of the race, Coby is going to be a top contender to chase the big prize.

The race weekend will start with the NAPA Auto Parts Duel on Saturday, April 23 – where the field will be split into two, 40-lap races, each worth $4,000 to win. From there, Sunday’s 100-lap Spring Sizzler will be worth $15,000 to win – meaning a driver could collect over $20,000 for winning the race, including lap money bonuses.

The winner of Sunday’s Spring Sizzler will also earn a guaranteed seat for the SRX (Superstar Racing Experience) event at Stafford on July 2. Coby, who won the inaugural SRX race at his home track in 2021, would love to have a shot to make it two-for-two.

The event is the first of Doug Coby Racing’s 2022 schedule – one that includes a new crew chief – John McKenna. The combination of McKenna and Coby have worked together and won races before, and they are ready to roll to chase the Sizzler trophy.

“We feel good,” Coby said. “I know John’s ability and we will be ready with different things to try. The Sizzler has a ton of history in New England Modified racing – and to have four of them already is awesome to begin with – but to get the fifth win, at the 50th anniversary, would be pretty special. My first Tour-Type Modified win came at the Spring Sizzler in 2006 and it’s definitely something I’ll always remember. I think the driver who wins the 50th is definitely going to remember it.”

The Spring Sizzler is the first of seven races on Doug Coby Racing’s tentative 2022 schedule. From Stafford, the team will plan to move to Claremont Motorsports Park on Memorial Day weekend, Friday, May 27, for another $15,000 to win the race.

Stafford’s weekend schedule includes qualifying on Saturday at 2:30 p.m., which will include the NAPA Auto Parts Duel races. On Sunday, racing is scheduled to begin at 2 p.m., with the NAPA Spring Sizzler 100 scheduled to take the green flag at 5:30 p.m. Tickets are available online at StaffordMotorSpeedway.com and will also be available at the track on race day. For those who can’t make it to the track, the race will air live on FloRacing.TV as part of a subscription.

DOUG COBY RACING PARTNERS WITH CHAMPION CREW CHIEF JOHN MCKENNA, ANNOUNCES 2022 SCHEDULE

By Souza Media/Kyle Souza

MILFORD, Conn. – Doug Coby Racing announced today the addition of champion crew chief John McKenna to the team for the 2022 season, while also announcing a seven-race Modified schedule. The team is tentatively set to run four NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour events and three Open Modified races – filling out a schedule where the ultimate goal will be to capture the trophy. The team also announced the return of Mayhew Tools as the primary sponsor of the No. 10 Modified.

The addition of McKenna will provide the chance for Coby and McKenna to rekindle a successful relationship they shared for many years. When Phil Moran left Doug Coby Racing to pursue other opportunities at the end of the 2021 season, Coby and McKenna teamed up for the Haunted Hundred Tri Track race at Seekonk Speedway to close the year. From there, the two spoke and came up with a plan for 2022.

When Coby and McKenna first worked together at the 2010 NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour season-finale, Coby didn’t even know who McKenna was. One year later, they won at Thompson Speedway Motorsports Park together, as Coby split the season between McKenna and another crew chief. In 2012, the two took off – winning five races and the NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour championship with car owner Wayne Darling. A year later, they won two events and finished inside the top-10 in all but three races, coming up just short of a second straight championship.

“I didn’t know John, I actually thought another one of the other crew members was John McKenna,” Coby joked. “I walked into the shop and was introduced to him and we started working together. When Phil decided to head in a different direction, my top priority was finding someone out there who I knew I wanted to work with. I want to go to the race track with John. His overall approach to racing is something I love. He’s crafty and is always trying different things. He has a lot of full-fendered experience on top of his Modified experience and the both of us together just try to do whatever makes the most sense in each situation. It’s a great experience working with him because you know he’s always thinking about absolutely everything on the car and at the track. He has a great eye.”

The decision to scale back for 2022 is one that both Coby and McKenna are comfortable with due to obligations outside of racing. However, Coby is open to additional opportunities to drive other events during the year if they do become available to him. The announced modified schedule is just the confirmed events Coby's modified team will race in during the 2022 season.

“I have a few things to get organized with the team and that is what led me to the decision to not force the puzzle pieces together to make the full year. My priority for 2022 is to get back acquainted with John and do what is manageable for all of us, including my crew members, to continue building a winning team. Whether we run the Tour full-time again in the future or not, we have to see how things evolve over time,” Coby continued. “I’m really thankful to have a strong commitment from John Lawless and Eric Mills at Mayhew Tools, and Kim Berube at Reynold’s Auto Wrecking. They make it possible for the No. 10 team to race and we hope to bring home some more wins for them this season.”

The 2022 schedule for Doug Coby Racing will begin in April at Stafford Motor Speedway for the 50th running of the NAPA Spring Sizzler on April 23-24, where the race winner of the 100-lap special will leave with a minimum of $15,000. From there, the team will compete in the $15,000 to win Open Modified race at Claremont Motorsports Park on Friday, May 27.

One month later, on Wednesday, June 29, Coby will join the Tri Track Open Modified Series teams at Seekonk Speedway for the annual $10,000 to win Open Wheel Wednesday, of which Coby is a three-time winner. He will follow that up with his first of four NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour races during the year, competing at New Hampshire Motor Speedway on Saturday, July 16.

From there, the team will run both NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour races at Thompson Speedway Motorsports Park on Thursday, August 17 and Saturday, October 8 as part of the World Series of Speedway Racing. The Doug Coby Racing season will conclude at Martinsville Speedway on Thursday, October 27 in the Whelen Modified Tour finale.

Tentative 2022 Schedule For Doug Coby Racing:

April 23-24 – Stafford Motor Speedway – NAPA Spring Sizzler – $15,000 To Win
May 27 – Claremont Motorsports Park – The Racing Guys $15,000 To Win Race
June 29 – Seekonk Speedway – $10,000 To Win Open Wheel Wednesday
July 16 – New Hampshire Motor Speedway – NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour 100

MILFORD, Conn. -- It was all looking positive for Doug Coby until one corner changed it all on Saturday, October 23 at Seekonk Speedway. Coby, competing in the Tri Track Open Modified Series Haunted Hundred feature, was running second when contact sent the No. 10 Mayhew Tools machine spinning in front of the field.

Unfortunately, with a cloud of smoke, others weren’t able to avoid the stopped Coby, and damaged sidelined the six-time NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour champion for the rest of the event.

After winning his heat race, collecting $300 as part of the Pepsi Challenge, Coby ran inside the top-three for the duration of the race, prior to the incident. The lap 75 crash resulted in Coby finishing 21st at Seekonk.

“I think we probably would have finished somewhere between second and fourth,” Coby said. “I wouldn’t have been able to replicate Chase Dowling’s (eventual winner) lap times from what he was doing at the end. I feel like when we were at Seekonk in August, Matt Hirschman had us in that position. We were better than most of the field, except for one car. It stinks. I like to go there and be the fastest car, not the second or third fastest car. A lot of guys have gotten really good there. It seems like they have really dialed in their setups to last the whole race. I’m not disappointed with how the car ran, but I am a bit disappointed with how the finish worked out.”

With Seekonk in the rear-view mirror, the 2021 racing schedule for Doug Coby Racing is now complete in the Modified ranks. For more information on Doug Coby Racing, visit DougCobyRacing.com and follow the team on Facebook for the latest updates.
