Story By Souza Media/Kyle Souza STAFFORD, Conn. -- Representing the entire short-track community, Doug Coby dominated the inaugural Superstar Racing Experience (SRX) event at his home track, Stafford Motor Speedway, on Saturday night, June 12. Driving the No. 10, Coby held off former NASCAR champions Greg Biffle and Tony Stewart to score one of the biggest wins of his career in front of a packed Stafford grandstand. “What a special night for short track racing in America and a special night for Stafford,” Coby said, moments after climbing from the car. “This is for everyone who is a short-track racer around the country. To have SRX here, with this amazing crowd.. I have to thank Ray Evernham and everyone at SRX. This means a lot to short-track racing.” Coby was fastest in practice on Saturday, won his heat race, and also was at the front for most of the race. A late caution flag gave Biffle and Stewart one more shot to find their way around the Milford, Connecticut, native, but neither had enough. It was Coby’s 31st career win at Stafford’s half-mile -- with victories coming in the NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour, Pro Stocks, SK Modifieds and Late Models. The six-time Whelen Modified Tour champion skipped the tour race at Oswego Speedway to compete with SRX. Coby honored his former Modified car owner, Don King, who passed away this week, with a special sticker on his helmet. “I lost a very good friend of mine this week,” Coby said. “Don was one of my best friends. He gave me my first tour ride. That’s what short-track racers do. We pour our heart and soul into this.” Doug Coby will return to racing action at Riverhead Raceway on Saturday, June 19, with the NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour.
