RIVERHEAD, N.Y. -- Doug Coby’s day at Riverhead Raceway went from running second and in contention for the season sweep, to in the wall and done for the night on Saturday, September 18. Coby was running second in the Miller Lite 200, after qualifying on the outside pole, when he moved to the outside of polesitter Tom Rogers Jr. for the race lead coming off turn two on lap 53. However -- Rogers moved up to the track down the backstretch -- and Coby’s right-front wheel made contact with the outside wall, breaking some of the suspension and forcing the Milford, Connecticut, native behind the wall and out of the race early. The team thrashed in the garage working on the car in an attempt to get back on the track, but Coby was forced to a 24th place finish in the 13th NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour race of the season. “I got a wheel up on the outside of him the lap before and he didn’t really move over,” Coby said. “So, I got up on the outside of him again a lap later, and he didn’t give me one inch or ounce of space. I can’t thank my Mayhew Tools team enough for all of the hard work on Saturday. It was a long day, but we had a good car. We will be back at Stafford.” Next up for Doug Coby and the Doug Coby Racing team is the final NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour race of the season at Stafford Motor Speedway on Saturday, September 25, in the running of the NAPA Fall Final. After that, Doug Coby will run select Open Modified events in New England to close the 2021 season. For more information on Doug Coby Racing, visit DougCobyRacing.com and follow the team on Facebook.
