MILFORD, Conn. -- Six-time NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour champion Doug Coby is set to get back to work this weekend, this time at Beech Ridge Motor Speedway in Maine. In the Whelen Modified Tour’s first stop at the third-mile since 2005, Coby may have an advantage over the rest of the field, as he is one of only two drivers entered to have previous tour laps at the track. In three previous attempts, all between 2003-2005, Coby had a best finish of 12th. He enters the race sixth in the championship standings, 75 from the lead, but only 19 points out of third. The goal for the remainder of the season will be to try and win as many races as possible. Coby won the first two events at Riverhead Raceway in New York, and will look forward to attempting the sweep there in September. For now, he’s excited to get back to Beech Ridge. “I did run there before but I’m not sure what this track will be all about with the current tires and the current setups we run, but we will all find out together,” Coby said. “It’s a big, round, flat, circle. When I first ran there, I used to run the track like I ran Seekonk Speedway, but now I’ve learned how to run Seekonk, and it might change how I run Beech Ridge. Ultimately, it’s going to come down to tire management and the pit stops. We’re really going to be side-by-side a lot of the time and it makes it hard to make up ground or pull away from each other.” The Beech Ridge event will begin a busy stretch for Coby, who will compete in seven races over the next six weeks. Events will include a return to Seekonk Speedway with the Tri Track Open Modified Series on August 25, four more Whelen Modified Tour events and his debut at Bristol Motor Speedway in the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series with GMS Racing on September 16. Saturday’s schedule at the track includes one practice session from 2:50-3:50 p.m., followed by an autograph session with the fans behind the grandstands at 5:30 p.m. Mayhew Tools Dominator Pole qualifying will take place at 6:30 p.m., followed by the drop of the green flag in the Rumble at the Ridge 200 at 7:30 p.m. For those who can make it, general admission and pit pass tickets will be available at the track. For those who can’t make the track, you can watch the race live on TrackPass via NBC Sports Gold. The race will also air via tape-delay on NBCSN on Sunday, August 29.
