MILFORD, Conn. -- With a goal of winning in mind, Doug Coby is heading back to Oswego Speedway this weekend looking to carry the checkered flag. Coby, a former winner at the New York oval, didn’t compete in the first NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour event at the track earlier this year, and instead, won the inaugural SRX event at Stafford Motor Speedway on June 12.

In June, Chase Dowling did wheel the Doug Coby Racing, Mayhew Tools No. 10 to an eighth-place finish at Oswego, but that didn’t show the speed the car had. A pit road penalty issued by NASCAR forced Dowling to restart at the rear of the race around halfway, ending his chances of winning.

Coby won at Oswego in 2016 and hasn’t finished worse than sixth in four attempts at the tricky track. Known for high speeds and a boiler plate across the inside walls that sticks out towards the track, Oswego is one of the more difficult tracks on the schedule.

One of Coby’s main goals in the final four races of the season is to win as many races as possible, but even though the Milford, Connecticut, driver is nearly out of contention for the drivers title, the owners championship is still in reach for Doug Coby Racing. The team is third, only 36 points from the owners lead, and Coby has a goal of trying to advance his position.

“Everybody on the team was confident that if they didn't have the pit road penalty they would have been in contention for the win in June,” Coby said. “I’m excited, and confident that we will be fast. Hopefully we will be in contention to win. The usual characters are going to be fast and we will have to be with them in order to have a shot at winning. If one of the other drivers in this owners title battle has a bad race, it could get to the point where it gets interesting when we head to the final two races. I would really like to get at least second in owner points.”

The NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour rolls to Oswego this weekend, then hits Richmond Raceway on September 10, Riverhead Raceway on September 18 and Stafford Motor Speedway and September 25, over consecutive weeks to end the season.

The Toyota Mod Classic 150 race day will include practice from 1:35-2:35 p.m., followed by Mayhew Tools Dominator Pole qualifying at 4:15 p.m. The drop of the green flag in the 11th race of the Whelen Modified Tour season is set for 7:30 p.m., and will air live on NBC Sports Gold’s TrackPass platform.
