RIVERHEAD, N.Y. – Saturday’s NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour visit to Riverhead Raceway ended with a top-five finish for Doug Coby. Driving the Tommy Baldwin Racing No. 7NY, Coby qualified fourth for the Ed Partridge 256, and rode around the top-five for much of the night. With infield pitting a factor for the first time in the history of Whelen Modified Tour racing at Riverhead, the team completed a successful stop and Coby raced to a strong fourth-place finish. The effort was good enough for Tommy Baldwin Racing to continue to hold their owners championship lead with just two races remaining in the Whelen Modified Tour season. It was the sixth top-five finish for Coby driving the 7NY so far in 2022. “It was a solid day,” Coby said. “We laid down a fast lap in practice but then struggled with the car a little bit for the rest of the session. It was a lot better in qualifying, then in the race it was really good on one end of the track, but not so good on the other. We stuck to our plan and our pitting strategy and the guys had the best two-tire stop of anyone out there, which put us in contention at the end. We had only a fourth or fifth place car and that’s where we ended up.” Doug Coby will return to the track in the No. 10 Mayhew Tools machine at Thompson Speedway Motorsports Park on Sunday, October 9 as part of the Sunoco World Series of Speedway Racing.
