STAFFORD, Conn. – For the first time in 2022, the Doug Coby Racing team unloaded at the track race on April 23-24, competing in the 50th running of the NAPA Spring Sizzler at Stafford Motor Speedway. When the 100-lap Sizzler feature took the checkered flag, Coby wheeled the No. 10 Mayhew Tools entry to a 17th place finish. The team elected to try a tire strategy that kept fresh Hoosier rubber in the pit area until late in the race, with the plan to put them on and make a dash through the field.
However, the caution flags didn’t fall where they were needed for Coby to have a shot at chasing the big $15,000 prize. In the end, Coby kept the Mayhew Tools entry in one piece and produced the best finish possible on older tires compared to those around him. The race was the first of seven events on the tentative 2022 schedule for the Milford, Connecticut veteran.
“It just didn't work out our way, it happens sometimes with strategy,” Coby said. “All of the Mayhew Tools crew worked really hard to get us here and at the track during the weekend. We will go home and get ready for the next one in just over a month.”
The next event on the 2022 schedule for Doug Coby Racing is scheduled to take place at Claremont Motorsports Park on Friday, May 27. The scheduled 100-lap race around the tricky New Hampshire oval will pay $15,000 to the winner.
