SEEKONK, Mass. – Six-time NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour champion Doug Coby finished 14th in the Open Wheel Wednesday spectacular at Seekonk Speedway on Wednesday night, June 29, racing with the Monaco Modified Tri-Track Series. Coby was third fastest in the scuff session prior to qualifying, which lined up the No. 10 Mayhew Tools entry to start fourth in his qualifying heat. Coby would finish third – giving him a 10th place starting spot for the 100-lap, $10,000 to win main event. At the drop of the green, Coby worked his way up into the top-five, and rode there for the first half of the race. However, just past halfway, Coby fell to the bottom of the top-10 and decided it was time to enter the pits for a fresh tire. Upon adding the new tire on the car, Coby was able to come from 20th back up through the pack to finish 14th after 100 laps. “I thought we were going to be ok,” Coby said. “For some reason, under every caution, the car just got evil and it was evil for more and more laps with every caution. We were quick at times today, and hanging on at other times. We have to thank Mayhew Tools and all of our supporters for making it happen for Doug Coby Racing.” Doug Coby will return to the track at New Hampshire Motor Speedway with the NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour on Saturday, July 16, driving the Mayhew Tools No. 10.
